About Us

We are a small family business running a mixed farm as well as a Grain Crimping contracting enterprise.

Wappingthorn Farm (our base) is Just below the South Downs near Horsham in West Sussex.

Having Crimped cereals for our own cows using home grown cereals for 16 years and having seen first hand the many benefits that feeding Crimped cereals has to offer we thought we should introduce the concept to other farmers, so they too could benefit and cost effectively feed there own cereals to their cows. In 1994 this lead to the start of a contracting enterprise, crimping Cereals on Farm as a contractor in the South & South East of England.

In 2000 we started crimping maize, crimped maize is combined maize grain at 35% moisture and then processed through a crimper. When we analyzed it and found out how well it feed to Cattle, like rocket fuel! we thought this too good a secret to keep to ourselves so with the help of Kelvin Cave started to promote it throughout the UK.

This lead to an increased interest from both dairy farmers in the far West, Wales, the North of England and Scotland looking to purchase Crimped Maize as well as arable farmers from the South and South East looking for alternative markets for there grain maize. As a result we now purchase Grain Maize from the arable sector and then process it on their farm to then deliver it direct to the end user.

A system that works extremely well as it is totally traceable with no middle processing at another location, no double handling and the benefit of farmer to farmer trading keeping costs down.

The amount of grain sold has increased year on year and in 2006 we hope to move an all time high of around 6,000 tonnes.
